Antique bisque porcelain figure of a mother and child by Professor Otto Poertzel (1876 - 1963), 25 cm in height including the wooden base and 26 cm wide at base, factory stamp 11241 on porcelain base, sympathetic restoration to some of the hands. Otto Poertzel was born in Scheibe, Germany, he was the son of a porcelain designer. He studied at the Porcelain Industry Technical School under Professor R. Moller before setting up as a sculptor in Coburg in 1900. Poertzel in particularly famous for his Art Deco bronze figurines.
